Mission Statement

The Historical Society of Camp Hill was established in 2003 as a nonprofit educational and historical organization, dedicated to preservation and interpretation of the Borough of Camp Hill and its heritage, landmarks and artifacts.

Purposes of HSCH

Officers of the Historical Society develop programs, services and events for members such as to:

  • Produce a newsletter about people and happenings of residents, business and organization of the borough’s history.
  • Publish papers, articles and resource documents from publications and books that related to Camp Hill
  • Record and preserve oral histories of people who have contributed to the borough’s history
  • Offer curriculum and related resource materials about local history to area schools.
  • Offer walking tours and literature about the borough’s historical buildings and sites to residents, business and events.
  • Offer a speakers’ bureau about Camp Hill heritage to organizations.
  • Arrange for meeting site.
  • Submit photographs, artifacts and other materials relevant to the borough’s history to the Cumberland County Historical Society to add to its collection.
  • Work with community organizations to sponsor joint activities.
  • Hold general meetings generally on the first Thursday of March, May and November.

Reciprocal membership with Cumberland County Historical Society

The Historical Society of Camp Hill has entered into a “reciprocal partnership” with the Cumberland County Historical Society to offer a reduced single individual membership in the county history society. This partnership enables HSCH members’ access to facilities, archives and events.

CCHS has a commitment to support and promote Central Pennsylvania. Plans are to offer CCHS members-only access to digital files.

A Reciprocal Membership includes all the basic benefits of a CCHS membership. Cost is $20 off the CCHS individual membership of $45. Information https://camphillhistoricalsociety.org/shop/

CCHS used its membership fees to:

  • Keep museum free and open to public
  • Preserve collection of historical material
  • Offer low-cost or free educational programs
  • Mount special exhibits
  • Provide historical research support
  • Out-reach to county communities
  • Serve as a regional resource

CCHS was founded as the Hamilton Library in 1874. Its resources have evolved into an extensive collection, exhibits, manuscripts and photographs. More than 100 classes are reached annually by the Education Department. The society publishes books of interested that are available in the Museum Shop or online.
